We are excited to announce that our Keynote Speaker for the 2014 Undergraduate Research Symposium is Arthur Allen. Mr. Allen’s address will take place on Friday April 4th from 1:00pm-2:00pm in Riggs Library.
“Under the Microscope: Seeing Facts in Science and Journalism”
Arthur Allen is a writer and journalist based in Washington DC and is the author of Vaccine: the Controversial Story of Medicine’s Greatest Lifesaver (WW Norton, 2007). He is a regular contributor to Science and the Washington Post and has written for many magazines including The New York Times Magazine, The New Republic and Mother Jones. He is also the author of Ripe: The Search for the Perfect Tomato (Counterpoint, 2010) and of the forthcoming The Fantastic Laboratory of Dr. Weigl (WW Norton, July 2014). Allen graduated in Development Studies at UC-Berkeley and was a foreign correspondent in El Salvador, Mexico, France and Germany before returning to the U.S. in 1995 and rekindling his undergraduate interest in biology by becoming a science writer.
